Our goal is to create organic gardens in every Title one school throughout the L.A. Unified School District.
With the focus primarily on middle schools to educate and introduce the importance of nutrition, health, food security, clean technology and environmental sustainability. CHG's hope is to lead the school and district to healthier food options in the lunchroom and nutrition programs.
We have started out with a pilot school program at Markham Middle School in Watts, farming an acre of land with fruit trees and veggies. Our very first school project was at 61st Street Elementary in South L.A. where the garden is thriving to date and taken over by several teachers at the school.
We are working with teachers, local groups, experts and NGOs to bring an educational component to the garden creating an "outdoor living" classroom.
